Our January Fundraising Training
A couple of years ago, the Alliance for Appalachia was invited to join the Peace Development Fund’s Sustainability Project, a three-year capacity building program that supports organizational development for grassroots organizations. Through this program so far, our Steering Committee has built skills around governance and learning to lead with intent by honing in on roles and responsibilities and having important conversations about what the Alliance represents.
In January, we continued the program with our second training, which focused on diversifying our funding sources for more sustainable financing of our coalition and our work. Alliance members and staff learned about cultivating relationships with donors and different methods for soliciting donations. We learned how to determine and set realistic fund-raising goals, and we practiced telling our story and communicating our mission and visions to others. Above all, we learned some majors lessons: that asking for money is hard but necessary to continue the work!
Since the training, we’ve put together a fundraising team, added a donation button to our Facebook page, and started working on our longer-term fundraising plan. Would you be willing to start a Facebook campaign to support the Alliance? Learn more here.
